Sighting in Ablis, August 30, 2008

Yvelines, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on August 30, 2008 in Ablis (Yvelines, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a balloon (class A).

What happened

At around 7:50 p.m., a witness noticed a flying object in the sky that they could not identify. They took a series of photographs and also filmed how the object moved. The film was never sent to the GEIPAN.

The gendarmerie questioned people in the neighbourhood and concluded that the object was a kite. Kite enthusiasts regularly gather at the municipal sports ground to fly kites. Several witnesses confirmed that this had been happening on that day, and one of them mentioned a kite that was flying particularly high. The GEIPAN therefore classified the case as A: the object observed was a kite.
