SkyUnknown lists 16,947 UFO sightings worldwide, from 1937 to 2026, drawn from official records: Project Blue Book (NARA) for 10,107 cases, GEIPAN (CNES) for 3,378, Ministry of Defence (UK) for 2,720, Aeronautica Militare (Italie) for 442, and PURSUE (gouvernement des États-Unis) for 300. The busiest year was 1957, with 975 cases.

Of the 4,119 cases with a conclusion from their source, 55% are explained (with certainty or probably), 25% lack the data to conclude, and 832 remain unidentified. The most frequent identified causes: sky lanterns (418); aircraft (288); balloons (197).

For the other 12,828 cases, the source gives no conclusion: the UK Ministry of Defence published witness reports without investigation and Project Blue Book conclusions sit in scanned files not yet transcribed.
