Sighting in Ally, December 1, 1976

Haute-Loire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on December 1, 1976 in Ally (Haute-Loire, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty (class A).

What happened

Several witnesses noticed a bright, motionless object above the horizon. They watched it for about fifteen minutes before it disappeared. No particular sound was heard.

The gendarmerie went to the site quickly, but saw nothing themselves that evening and found no unusual marks on the ground in the area.

The gendarmerie's investigation then established that, on several evenings in a row, a luminous phenomenon was visible in the direction all the witnesses had indicated, and that it set behind the horizon. GEIPAN concluded that all of these people had been observing the planet Venus. The case is classified A (identified).
