Sighting in Bailleval, August 24, 2010

Oise, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on August 24, 2010 in Bailleval (Oise, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was the planet Jupiter (class A).

What happened

At about 1:30 in the morning, a witness noticed a light in the sky that caught their attention. They were the only witness. Their account was detailed, and they had considered several possible explanations. They also took photographs of what they had seen.

The GEIPAN investigation found that the characteristics described matched a known phenomenon, the observation of a planet, and that nothing in the account was out of the ordinary. Jupiter was indeed in that part of the sky at the stated date and time, and the photographs were typical of that planet, which confirmed the hypothesis with certainty. Although there was only one testimony, it was of good quality and consistent. The case was classified A: it was an observation of Jupiter.
