Sighting on July 14, 1979 in Beauvais (Oise, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

Two witnesses saw a rounded object in the sky between 9:50 and 9:55 p.m. It was shaped like a cauldron and had a metallic color, stainless steel or aluminium. It was at an estimated altitude of 100 to 150 metres. It moved horizontally from the northeast to the southwest, swinging regularly from side to side and making no sound. Reflections could be seen as it travelled.

No other witness account was collected for this phenomenon. According to the investigation, many unusual objects move at low altitude on the evening of 14 July. Given the description, the witnesses most likely saw a kite pass by. The case was classified B, probably identified.
