Sighting in Cachan, May 27, 2008
Val-de-Marne, Île-de-France, France
Sighting on May 27, 2008 in Cachan (Val-de-Marne, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class B).
What happened
The witness sent a very brief email reporting that they had repeatedly seen bluish, more or less round luminous shapes in the cloudy sky over the Paris region. They attached photographs to the message. No other witness account of the phenomenon was collected.
The photograph strongly suggests light from the ground being reflected on the clouds. The exact location of the witness and the direction they were looking in are unknown, but the Paris region has plenty of lit-up monuments and public buildings, as well as nightlife venues whose powerful spotlights shine onto a cloud base. GEIPAN concluded that this was very probably a case of mistaking such reflections for something unusual. Because the case showed very little strangeness, no further investigation was considered warranted, and it was classified B: probable observation of night lighting reflected on clouds.
