Sighting in Calais, June 12, 2010

Pas-de-Calais, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on June 12, 2010 in Calais (Pas-de-Calais, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

Around 11:30 p.m., several residents of the town saw, from different places, about ten orange and white glowing balls in the sky. The lights all seemed to originate from the same spot. They moved slowly and silently along a rising path, then disappeared.

A local newspaper article dated 17 August 2010 later reported that a witness had seen a release of lanterns in front of the Lycée du Détroit. The gendarmerie, however, did not collect any witness statements. GEIPAN classified the case as B: the people most likely saw Thai lanterns passing by.
