Sighting in Cap-d'Ail, January 20, 2022
Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France
Sighting on January 20, 2022 in Cap-d'Ail (Alpes-Maritimes, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).
What happened
A witness reported to the GEIPAN a large number of sightings of unidentified aerospace phenomena, made from their home. The initial questionnaire covered several sightings that were poorly documented or not documented at all, and that did not appear to have any obvious connection with the two photographs attached. The witness gave 20 January 2022 as a date, but it was not tied to any particular sighting.
The investigator asked for clarification. The witness replied with an email that did not return to the original sightings: it described a different one and enclosed several photographs relating to yet other events than the one first reported.
A review of the questionnaire and the email showed at least six separate sightings, each supported either by photographs or by testimony, but never by both. All of them proved unusable, because essential data needed to study them were missing to a greater or lesser degree. The investigation was therefore impossible. The GEIPAN classified the case as C: multiple sightings for which the major lack of data made any analysis unfeasible.
