Sighting in Cergy, July 1, 2010

Val-d'Oise, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on July 1, 2010 in Cergy (Val-d'Oise, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class B).

What happened

Around midnight, the witness noticed a point of light in the sky whose movement traced a chevron, or V-shaped, pattern. This was the only unusual aspect of the case. According to the witness, the pattern repeated roughly every 2 seconds.

The GEIPAN compared the account with a long-exposure photograph of an airliner, attached to the file. In it, red and white lights alternate along the line of travel, each coming on every second. The GEIPAN suggested that the witness had interpreted this alternating light as a chevron-shaped movement. The case was therefore classified B: probable observation of an aircraft.
