Sighting in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, December 7, 1978

Haute-Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting from an aircraft on December 7, 1978 in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc (Haute-Savoie, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class B).

What happened

During a flight from Rome to Paris, a passenger noticed a bright, elongated object below the aircraft, moving from right to left. When the flight landed, the pilot was questioned. The pilot remembered that, at the time given by the passenger, they had seen an airplane shining in the light of the setting sun and travelling from right to left. That aircraft left a faint condensation trail behind it.

GEIPAN classified the case as B, probably identified: the witness most likely saw this aircraft.
