Sighting in Chardogne, August 28, 2011

Meuse, Grand Est, France

Sighting on August 28, 2011 in Chardogne (Meuse, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Two witnesses were at home, watching the landscape and the lightning of a dry thunderstorm. They noticed a light grey, cylindrical object between the clouds and the rooftops of the houses. It hung motionless, then vanished all at once. The sighting lasted less than a minute.

The file is thinly documented: the observation was short and was reported only late. GEIPAN considered two possible explanations, a cylindrical balloon that burst suddenly, or a complex atmospheric phenomenon linked to the storm (a plasma), but it could not confirm either one. For lack of sufficient information, the case was classified C, not showing a strongly strange character.
