Sighting in Clamart, December 26, 2011

Hauts-de-Seine, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on December 26, 2011 in Clamart (Hauts-de-Seine, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

The witness was in the south-south-eastern suburbs of Paris when they noticed an orange glowing ball. It was flying at low altitude and heading toward Paris.

The investigation found that the description and the path of travel matched a Thai lantern in every respect, carried along by a southerly wind, as the weather record shows. The holiday season is also a time when such lanterns are commonly released. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as B: probably a Thai lantern.
