Sighting in Clamart, June 6, 2015

Hauts-de-Seine, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on June 6, 2015 in Clamart (Hauts-de-Seine, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a balloon (class B).

What happened

At around 5:30 p.m., a witness saw three small, silver-coloured flying objects. They were moving from the northwest toward the southeast. They then shot straight up all of a sudden and disappeared.

Local weather records showed a light westerly wind at 4 p.m., shifting to the northwest at 5 p.m. and to the north at 6 p.m. The objects' movement matched the direction of the wind. The investigation therefore pointed to small party balloons, which the sunlight would have made look silver. The sudden vertical departure and the disappearance were most likely caused by a balloon bursting at some altitude. GEIPAN classified the case as B: probable sighting of balloons.
