Sighting in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, April 2, 1980

Yvelines, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on April 2, 1980 in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 11:30 p.m., several people noticed a luminous ball in the sky, shaped like a rugby ball. The object stayed motionless for about twenty minutes. It then began to move very slowly, and the witnesses heard an air-churning noise that they compared to a fan. The ball moved away due west.

The observation went on for almost an hour before the witnesses gave up watching. No other testimony was gathered about the phenomenon.

GEIPAN classified the case as C, meaning there was not enough information. The hypothesis of a light helicopter flying at night fits the accounts and should not be ruled out, although it could not be verified.
