Sighting in Coutevroult, July 20, 2008

Seine-et-Marne, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on July 20, 2008 in Coutevroult (Seine-et-Marne, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class A).

What happened

A driver and their passenger watched an object for one minute at 10:12 pm on a Sunday evening in July, and it puzzled them. It was elongated, matte light grey, and had two large tail fins. It moved slowly and silently, made a loop, then disappeared toward the west.

The driver took two photographs with a mobile phone. No other witness came forward, and no unusual aerial phenomenon was reported in the area.

The gendarmerie investigation concluded that the witnesses had seen an airliner making a tight turn to line up with the runways of Roissy-Charles de Gaulle international airport. The GEIPAN found this explanation credible and classified the case as A (identified).
