Sighting in Creil, June 5, 2021
Oise, Hauts-de-France, France
Sighting on June 5, 2021 in Creil (Oise, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a balloon (class A).
What happened
In the early evening, the witness was indoors at home while their daughter played alone with a ball in the garden. Shortly before 7:30 p.m., the child came inside and said a dragon was flying in the sky. An object was indeed crossing the sky from east to west at a steady pace. The witness first tried to identify it with the naked eye, then filmed it twice until it vanished behind the neighbour's roof.
The object was a dark shape resembling an embryo: a large curved comma with three points of different sizes sticking outward. It rotated on itself and looked like a bean when seen from the front. It made no sound. The witness put it at roughly one kilometre away, which would place it over the town centre. A few minutes later, a helicopter followed the same route.
GEIPAN rated the case's consistency as good: only one testimony, but a very complete one, with two usable videos. The object's appearance and apparent movement in the footage strongly recalled a festive balloon. Its shape closely matched a balloon model used at events, and this was a Saturday. It flew low, beneath the clouds, and its course matched the direction of a moderate wind. The witness had thought of a balloon but dismissed the idea because of the shape and the steady, straight flight. The investigation established that dinosaur-shaped festive balloons exist. It was most probably a festive balloon carried by the wind, and the case was classified A.
