Sighting in Dammartin-en-Goële, October 5, 2012

Seine-et-Marne, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on October 5, 2012 in Dammartin-en-Goële (Seine-et-Marne, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At 23:26 one evening, a witness watched the sky for about a minute and saw an orange luminous object moving silently across it. The object was oval, with a wing on each side. No other witness came forward, and there are no photos or video.

The file gives no precise direction for where the object appeared and disappeared, nor its angular height at those two moments. No angular measurements were taken, and estimates of the object's altitude, distance and size lacked precision.

GEIPAN therefore classified the case as C: the missing data make it impossible to favour any hypothesis. The testimony has low consistency, being short on detail and lacking essential information needed to continue the study. The observation is considered only slightly strange, since it could have been an ordinary object, for example a night bird lit by urban lighting or a military aircraft with its lights off. For this reason, GEIPAN did not consider a field investigation necessary.
