Sighting in Deuil-la-Barre, September 27, 2014

Val-d'Oise, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on September 27, 2014 in Deuil-la-Barre (Val-d'Oise, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class A).

What happened

At night, the witness saw two flashing lights, one red and one white, coming toward them without a sound. The object then turned to the right. While the witness went to get a camera, it disappeared.

The GEIPAN investigation found that this description matched an aircraft. Very bright flashing lights are dazzling enough to hide the weak, steady green and red navigation lights, as well as the fuselage. During landing, the cabin is also dimly lit. The Flightradar record shows that a Turkish Airlines Airbus A321 on approach to Roissy flew a loop slightly north of the town, probably while waiting its turn to land. The case is classified A: an aircraft in a holding loop before landing.
