What happened
At about 7:10 a.m., a motorist driving through the Charente-Maritime area noticed a saucer-shaped craft hanging motionless. It looked to be roughly 5 to 6 metres across, with lights blinking at its edges. The witness got out of the vehicle and saw the object moving slowly away, at around 30 or 40 km/h.
The sighting lasted five minutes. The witness, a customs officer, was struck by the fact that the craft made no sound at all during that time. Being in a hurry, they only gave their statement on arriving in Haute-Garonne.
No other witness came forward in the area, and the investigation gathered no further information about the phenomenon. The case remained unexplained and was classified D by the GEIPAN.
