Sighting in Évry, August 7, 2015
Essonne, Île-de-France, France
Sighting on August 7, 2015 in Évry (Essonne, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class B).
What happened
At around 3 a.m., a witness saw four motionless luminous phenomena through the foliage of some trees. They were a bright silver color and flickered strongly. They were arranged side by side in pairs along a single horizontal line. They were low in the sky, and the witness was watching from the first floor. The lights stayed in place until 4:30 a.m., when the witness went to bed. No other witness account was collected.
Fixed lights seen through trees at a low height can have several origins, in principle on the ground. Contact with the witness established that there is a stadium behind those trees. Special work may have taken place there that night, or the usual floodlights may have been left on all night, which would have been unusual. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as B: probable ground lighting.
