Sighting in Fresnes, November 16, 1985

Val-de-Marne, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on November 16, 1985 in Fresnes (Val-de-Marne, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

From their fourth-floor apartment, a witness saw what looked like a circular dance of five white disks. The display seemed to be taking place about 2 km away, over an area roughly 500 metres across. Four of the disks arranged themselves in a square around a central disk. The four then moved in to join the central one, which grew larger and brighter. The initial dance then suddenly started up again, and everything vanished abruptly. The witness heard no sound.

The gendarmes did not look further into this explanation, but the witness's description led the GEIPAN to favour the hypothesis of a dance of laser beams of the "sky rose" type. The case was classified B: the observation was probably caused by an advertising searchlight beam.
