Sighting in Gonesse, May 5, 1978

Val-d'Oise, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on May 5, 1978 in Gonesse (Val-d'Oise, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

Between 10:45 and 11:15 p.m., three people watched a craft pass about 50 metres above them. It was large, yet they heard no sound at all. They noticed lights of different colours on it.

A gendarmerie investigation established that, at the time given by the witnesses, aircraft were passing silently in the area while waiting for clearance to land at Charles de Gaulle airport. GEIPAN concluded that the witnesses had probably seen aircraft of this kind passing over, hence the B classification (probably identified).
