Sighting in Gouvernes, September 15, 2003

Seine-et-Marne, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on September 15, 2003 in Gouvernes (Seine-et-Marne, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The witness reported this observation in October 2012, long after it happened, and was themselves unsure of the exact date. According to their account, at around 9:30 pm they saw two dark, triangular objects appear one after the other in the sky, each fitted with several lights. The objects first hovered in place, then moved off quickly, changing direction as they went. They finally disappeared toward the setting sun. The witness heard no sound at any point during the sighting.

To illustrate what they had seen, the witness supplied a photograph linked to the 1990 Petit-Rechain case in Belgium, noting that it had been brighter during their own sighting.

GEIPAN noted that the changing light in the middle of the triangle could point to a misidentification of an aircraft or helicopter, seen from far enough away not to be heard. However, the vagueness of the date and the age of the observation made a serious investigation impossible. The case was classified C because of insufficient information.
