Sighting in Gouvieux, September 24, 2013

Oise, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on September 24, 2013 in Gouvieux (Oise, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

A witness was having lunch with their family when they noticed a very bright, brilliant ball of light. It passed silently over a screen of trees in a straight line, then seemed to zigzag very quickly and changed course. Its movement was straight at both the beginning and the end of its path.

The investigation considered two possible explanations, though both were judged rather unlikely: an object carried by the wind, with the change of direction fitting variable winds in the area, or ball lightning, since stormy activity was possible. The information provided by the witnesses could neither confirm nor rule out either idea. GEIPAN classified the case as C because of a lack of information and corroboration.
