What happened
At around 5:30 pm on a Sunday, the witness was looking at the sky and first noticed an airliner. They then saw a black disc, smaller than the aircraft, moving in the opposite direction and more slowly. As it moved away, the object became oval, then flattened out completely. It crossed the sky in a straight line over a few minutes, and was seen against the light. Only one account was collected.
A balloon carried by the wind was the first idea considered. The Météociel record showed a west to south-west wind, consistent with the eastward movement the witness described. However, the object seen must have been motorised. It could have been a small circular drone of the quadcopter type, below 100 m altitude and flown by someone at the leisure park, a helicopter at relatively high altitude, or an aircraft as large as the one the witness saw but four times farther away. Each of these hypotheses fits the observation, but none can realistically be checked.
GEIPAN classified the case C, for lack of information and corroboration. The witness had given the wrong date in their account, writing Sunday 28 July. The weather on the 27th, with a storm late in the day, matched their description, and the witness confirmed that the sighting took place on Sunday 27 July.
