Sighting in Jouars-Pontchartrain, October 26, 2011

Yvelines, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on October 26, 2011 in Jouars-Pontchartrain (Yvelines, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 7 p.m., a driver and their son were travelling east on the RN12, between the Yvelines and Hauts-de-Seine areas. They noticed lights in the sky, some stationary and lined up, others moving. The witness then spotted a triangular craft with lights flashing red and white. Later, a point of light with purely white, vertical flashes crossed about 80° of sky in two seconds.

GEIPAN considered that the start of the sighting, with fixed lights in a line, could easily be explained by a mix-up with aircraft, since air traffic over the Paris region (Île-de-France) is heavy. The rest is harder to interpret: the description remains vague, and neither the flashing triangular craft nor the very fast point of light suggests any usual explanation. These are the only truly strange elements of the case, for which more detail would have been welcome. No other similar report was received for that evening in the Paris region. The strangeness was rated low to medium, and the case, too thin to reach a firm conclusion, was classed C for lack of independent witnesses and cross-checking.
