Sighting in La Chapelle-la-Reine, September 22, 1981

Seine-et-Marne, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on September 22, 1981 in La Chapelle-la-Reine (Seine-et-Marne, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Shortly after 3:30 a.m., several witnesses, including gendarmes, noticed lights of different colors low in the sky. The weather was rainy and stormy, so the witnesses could not describe the lights precisely or say where they came from.

The white light was quickly traced to a radio relay. The red light, which appeared intermittently, and the steady green light, however, were not clearly identified. The lights moved very fast and in a disorderly way. No sound was heard throughout the observation. The main witness also said they had felt a very strong warm wind, but the investigation has no further information on this point.

GEIPAN concluded that this was an observation of low-altitude lights with rapid movements. With insufficient data available, the case is classified C.
