Sighting in La Garenne-Colombes, July 16, 1979

Hauts-de-Seine, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on July 16, 1979 in La Garenne-Colombes (Hauts-de-Seine, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty (class A).

What happened

During one night in July 1979, several residents of the same neighbourhood heard short, shrill noises between 9:30 p.m. and 12:15 a.m. Frightened, they then saw unusual lights in the sky. The same thing happened again two evenings later.

The gendarmerie investigated and established where these events came from: whistling rockets, fired for fun and without permission from the garden of a neighbouring house. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as A (identified): the cause was unauthorised firing of fireworks.
