Loiret, Centre-Val de Loire, France

Sighting on March 27, 1980 in La Source (Loiret, France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

At around 10 p.m., a driver and their passenger noticed a large, dark, triangular mass in the sky. Flashing red and white lights at each of its extremities showed its wingspan, which the witness put at 50 metres.

The object was at first stationary. It then moved off, tilting slowly, while staying about 50 metres from both the ground and the car. After climbing again, it tilted to the right and vanished into the sky at high speed. The observation lasted four to five minutes. The car windows were closed, and no particular noise was heard.

The GEIPAN investigation gathered no further information about the phenomenon, which remained unexplained and was classified D.
