Sighting in Le Cannet, September 6, 2014

Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting on September 6, 2014 in Le Cannet (Alpes-Maritimes, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

From a terrace on the fourth floor, the witness noticed a red object in the sky shaped like a bell. It seemed to have portholes around its edge. The object moved at a steady speed and kept the same direction throughout. Only one account was collected.

That account contains little information: the free-form description is very short, and several key questions about the object's position in the sky were answered only with a question mark. The direction of travel was not given. According to GEIPAN, the steady path could suggest a light, non-luminous object, made of plastic or fabric, carried along by the wind, even though it looked like a bell with portholes around it. Because of this lack of information, the case was classified C (insufficient data).

Account rewritten by SkyUnknown from the investigation report published by GEIPAN (CNES). The original text and case documents are on the official record.
