Sighting in Les Andelys, November 15, 1977

Eure, Normandie, France

Sighting on November 15, 1977 in Les Andelys (Eure, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At around 6:45 a.m., a witness riding a moped suddenly saw an elongated object in the sky moving quickly toward the northwest. A few moments later, the object broke apart in a shower of sparks that fell toward the ground. A multicolored ball then appeared, continued in the same direction, and vanished completely. The witness heard no particular noise during the whole observation.

At the same time, another witness noticed a luminous phenomenon followed by a long, multicolored trail. The gendarmerie found no trace on the ground in the area concerned, and no other testimony was collected.

GEIPAN concluded that the witnesses had probably seen an atmospheric reentry. The case is classified B (probably identified).
