Sighting in Limeil-Brévannes, January 7, 2014

Val-de-Marne, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on January 7, 2014 in Limeil-Brévannes (Val-de-Marne, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class B).

What happened

In the evening, between 8 and 11 pm, a witness at home repeatedly noticed diffuse, moving patches of light in the cloudy sky above Paris. Each one traced an arc of varying length, sometimes pausing for about a second. Only one account was collected by GEIPAN, along with two photographs attached to the questionnaire.

The investigation took into account the movement, colour, shape and diffuse appearance of the phenomena. The lack of any visible beam was plausible and explainable. In addition, there were installations along the azimuth of the sighting that could use this kind of equipment. GEIPAN concluded that the witness had most likely seen laser beams striking the dense lower cloud layer, the beams being used for a local event. The case was classified B, probably identified.
