Sighting in Maisons-Alfort, June 27, 2011

Val-de-Marne, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on June 27, 2011 in Maisons-Alfort (Val-de-Marne, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

Two witnesses saw an orange light pass over their heads in a straight line one evening. They heard no noise at any point during the sighting, which lasted about one minute.

The GEIPAN investigation favoured the explanation of a Thai lantern. Several features pointed that way: the red-orange appearance, the shape, and a path that followed the wind, which was blowing from the north or north-west. The case is classified B, meaning probably identified: the object was most likely a Thai lantern drifting past.
