Sighting in Mitry-Mory, November 25, 2024
Seine-et-Marne, Île-de-France, France
Sighting on November 25, 2024 in Mitry-Mory (Seine-et-Marne, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class B).
What happened
Shortly before 5 a.m., from home, the witness noticed several round green lights in an overcast sky. They moved back and forth, then gradually drifted apart and went out. The whole event lasted about 30 seconds, and the witness filmed 11 of them. The video, sent to the GEIPAN along with the witness questionnaire, could be analysed. The case has good consistency: there was only one witness, but the video was usable. The witness's sense of strangeness came mainly from curiosity about what they had seen.
The investigation settled on the hypothesis of a sky-tracer, a light-show projector aimed at the sky. Several points support it: the round shape, typical of a beam from the ground hitting clouds; movement in every direction, characteristic of the automated sweeping of these devices; a confirmed cloud ceiling, with 8/8 oktas of cover according to MétéoCiel data; and the green colour, which looks diffuse on the video. However, no public data made it possible to locate a sky-tracer in the direction of the sighting. The GEIPAN therefore classified the case as B, probably identified.
