Sighting in Mouans-Sartoux, November 23, 2014

Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting on November 23, 2014 in Mouans-Sartoux (Alpes-Maritimes, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The witness reported the sighting in April 2015, several months after it happened. On the evening in question, at around 9:40 pm, they were at the window of their apartment when they noticed three lights in the sky, two white and one red, arranged in a triangle. The lights moved slowly and silently along a straight path. No other witness account was collected.

The investigation noted several points: the arrangement of the lights resembled the lighting of an aircraft, the area is heavily used by aircraft near Nice airport, and the movement was consistent with the local wind. Confusion with an aircraft, or with three luminous balloons or lanterns, was therefore possible. However, a great deal of angular, azimuth and testimonial data was missing. GEIPAN provisionally classified the case as C, because there was too little information to support a firm conclusion. It was still waiting for the witness to clarify the appearance, movement, position and disappearance of the phenomenon.
