Sighting in Munster, October 22, 2013

Haut-Rhin, Grand Est, France

Sighting on October 22, 2013 in Munster (Haut-Rhin, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a balloon (class B).

What happened

One evening at around 10:40 p.m., the witness was looking at the sky, which was clear. A dark object caught their attention. It was shaped like a half-dome, with protrusions hanging below it. It moved from south to north without making any noise.

The sighting lasted less than ten seconds, which was too short for the witness to take a photograph. The object then vanished into the darkness of the night sky.

After reviewing the questionnaire and the interview with the witness, the GEIPAN classified the case as B. It was probably a helium-filled party balloon of the "ladybird" type that had escaped from its owner.
