Sighting in Neufchâtel-en-Bray, August 6, 1980

Seine-Maritime, Normandie, France

Sighting on August 6, 1980 in Neufchâtel-en-Bray (Seine-Maritime, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 11 p.m., three people noticed an unusual light phenomenon in the sky. For two to five minutes, they watched two groups of three red lights, one of which was blinking. The two groups followed one another closely. The whole formation was accompanied by the sound of an engine, and it moved at low altitude and at a slow pace.

No other witness account of the sighting was collected. The investigation showed that many aircraft used this air corridor at that time of night. However, the GEIPAN could not explain the phenomenon because of a lack of information, and classified it C (insufficient data).
