Sighting in Nice, April 17, 2020

Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting on April 17, 2020 in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 9:15 p.m., a witness on the high ground of the city was looking toward Saint-Laurent-du-Var and Grasse when they noticed several points of light in the sky. For nearly fifty minutes, they watched the points form a series of shapes: triangles, vertical or horizontal "L" shapes, and circles. According to the witness, these figures moved across the sky "in a regular and constant manner." In the end, the whole group of lights headed toward Italy and then disappeared.

The witness tried to take photos, but they did not work. They also filmed the scene and thought the video might be usable, though they described it as blurred. The gendarmerie gathered no further information about the phenomenon.

GEIPAN followed up with the witness on 9 June 2020 to request more details, but the witness replied neither to the questionnaire nor to the request for the video. No match with other testimonies for that date could be found in the GEIPAN database. Because of insufficient information, the case was classified C.
