Sighting in Noirétable, July 5, 2010

Loire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on July 5, 2010 in Noirétable (Loire, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably the International Space Station (ISS) (class B).

What happened

During the night of 4 to 5 July 2010, at around 12:15 a.m., a witness was in their bedroom looking out of the window. They saw a very bright light cross the sky in a straight line from west to east, then disappear behind the roof.

In its investigation, the GEIPAN found that the International Space Station was only visible from that location from 12:23 a.m. (local time). This seven-minute difference from the time the witness gave was considered acceptable, especially since the witness had themselves given an approximate time ("+/- 12:15 a.m."). The case was therefore classified B: it was very probably an observation of the International Space Station.
