Sighting in Noisy-le-Grand, January 6, 2025

The only witness, at home, looked out of their window in the middle of the night, at 02:49, and saw lights moving in the sky ahead of them. They described them as numerous, of two different sizes, white and very bright, surrounded by a white halo. The lights circled around while staying evenly spaced. The phenomenon lay toward the east-northeast, between 30° and 45° above the horizon. The witness photographed and filmed it, and it shows clearly in the images. They ended the observation of their own accord while the lights were still there. To them, the strangeness lay in the look and behavior of the lights, which differed from what they had already seen in the same direction and which they attributed to lights from "parties".

The investigation established that these were light animations projected onto the clouds by powerful searchlights commonly called "skytracers". Their regular, repetitive movements, often circular, are visible in the video. According to records from the Paris-Le Bourget and Charles de Gaulle stations, the cloud ceiling was around 2 km high and cover was heavy, from 5-7 to 8/8 oktas. These conditions favored the effect seen, though somewhat weakened by the height of the clouds. The line of sight pointed exactly toward Disneyland Paris, about 16 km away, at azimuth 83°. No show takes place at such a late hour, but the observation fell between two shows: one that ended around 9 p.m. that same day, and another starting on 10 January. A test of the projectors is therefore quite plausible, which would also explain the difference from what the witness usually saw. GEIPAN classified the case as A.
