Sighting in Orphin, November 15, 2022

Yvelines, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on November 15, 2022 in Orphin (Yvelines, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 9:30 pm, a witness who had come to pick up their vehicle in the village noticed a very bright, motionless phenomenon in the sky, shaped like a "Y". They pointed it out to their father, who was there and paid it no attention. The witness then spotted several other similar phenomena, "more or less white", also motionless and less bright than the first. They also saw a very large, luminous shape crossing the sky in a straight line at great speed. It looked to them like two radio antennas stuck together and flashed all over. They had the impression that all the objects were heading in the same direction. After getting their car back, they tried to film, but the large fast-moving objects were gone.

The only source is a gendarmerie report: the witness did not reply to the GEIPAN's request for more details, and no other testimony was collected. The video lasts only a few seconds, against a very dark sky, with a phenomenon that is barely visible, out of focus and very shaky. Essential data are missing: azimuths and elevations, the number of phenomena, apparent size, and duration of the observation. Some descriptions also appear contradictory, both for shape (a "Y" or points of light) and for colour (white, then flashing red, orange and green lights). The GEIPAN therefore classed the case C, for lack of sufficient data to analyse it.
