Sighting in Ouraisk - Uarr, March 26, 2026
Kazakhstan
Sighting from an aircraft on March 26, 2026 in Ouraisk - Uarr (Kazakhstan). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was one or more satellites (class A).
What happened
The pilot of a Gulfstream G650 private jet, flying over central Asia at 21:47 UTC, reported several very bright white lights, visible on and off. They moved in formation at an altitude higher than the aircraft's. According to the pilot, their paths were sometimes unpredictable and they changed height extremely abruptly, far beyond what the best current fighter jets can do. The sighting began at the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan and continued intermittently as far as India. The pilot estimated the lights were about 18 km away. Even so, the onboard radars detected nothing and no anti-collision alert went off. There were two witnesses but only one account, and the pilot supplied usable photos.
GEIPAN noted that the description could suggest military aircraft, in a region where the geopolitical situation is very tense. The investigation, however, weighed that idea against the hypothesis of Starlink® satellite flares. The witness's photos match the reported characteristics exactly, and the conditions of appearance and disappearance described in GEIPAN's note on Starlink® flares appear to be met. The case, judged to be of low strangeness and good consistency, is therefore classed A: observation of Starlink® satellite flares.
