Sighting in Paris, June 13, 2008

Île-de-France, France

Sighting on June 13, 2008, exact location not given (département: Paris, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

At around 11:30 pm, witnesses who were at home saw luminous phenomena moving across the sky. A film made at the time shows bright lights travelling from the northeast to the northwest. People out in the street also noticed the lights, and many internet users posted their accounts on various websites.

According to GEIPAN, the large number of dim lights all following the same path most likely came from a release of Thai lanterns during a festive event. The people responsible and the launch sites for this kind of lantern balloon are very hard to trace, and GEIPAN encourages anyone who carries out such activities to get in touch. The case is classed B (probably identified).
