Sighting in Paris, August 8, 2012

Île-de-France, France

Sighting on August 8, 2012, exact location not given (département: Paris, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

One evening in August, at around 9:30 p.m., a witness noticed an orange-tinted light source in the sky. The light suddenly went out, and in its place the witness saw a dark, round object that abruptly changed course and then vanished among the features of the urban landscape.

GEIPAN's investigation linked this description to sunlight reflecting off an aircraft. The sun had set about ten minutes earlier, at 9:17 p.m., and an orange object visible at that moment strongly suggests such a reflection. Aircraft are numerous over the Paris region at that hour. The light going out matches the plane moving into shadow. The case was classified B: the sighting was probably the reflection of the sun on an aircraft.
