Sighting in Paris, January 1, 2013

Île-de-France, France

Sighting on January 1, 2013, exact location not given (département: Paris, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

Between 4:00 and 4:30 pm, a witness saw a first group of lights travel from west to east, soon followed by a second group on the same path. The objects moved without making any noise and eventually vanished on the horizon. The witness described several points of light arranged in two groups.

GEIPAN found that this description, the date of the sighting, which was a holiday, and the light westerly wind were all consistent with Thai lanterns. The case was therefore classified B: probably Thai lanterns.
