Sighting in Paris, June 23, 2014

What happened
At around 10:45 p.m., a driver saw several motionless orange lights in the sky through the windscreen. Another flying object then joined this group of lights, also drifting with the wind. The sighting lasted only about five seconds, after which the lights quickly vanished.
The weather record showed a northerly wind of 15 to 30 km/h. The static orange lights were reminiscent of Thai lanterns seen along the wind axis, and the second object could have been another lantern released after the first group. However, the witness's description of that object did not fit a Thai lantern well. That said, observing conditions were poor: the witness was driving, looking through the windscreen, and saw it for a very short time.
No other testimony turned up, even though the area is densely populated. The strangeness of the case could therefore not be established, and its reliability is very low, given a single witness and such a brief sighting. GEIPAN classified the case as C because of insufficient information and a lack of cross-checking.
