Sighting in Paris, May 4, 2015

Île-de-France, France

Sighting on May 4, 2015, exact location not given (département: Paris, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a balloon (class B).

What happened

At 10:05 in the morning, the witness was at home when they noticed a sparkling object moving slowly across the sky in broad daylight. Its reflections kept changing as it drifted, and the witness took photographs of it. No other testimony was collected.

The investigation found that these features match those of a fairground balloon, a metallised mylar balloon that had slipped away from its owner. Such balloons come in a wide variety of shapes and colours. Once released, they spin around, so their appearance and reflections change constantly, as the witness's photos show. However, the account was not precise enough to establish the balloon's path or to check whether it fitted the local wind. GEIPAN classified the case as B: probable sighting of a child's balloon.
