Sighting in Paris, April 28, 2019

Île-de-France, France

Sighting on April 28, 2019, exact location not given (département: Paris, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class A).

What happened

At around 9:35 p.m., a witness standing at their window noticed an "craft" in the sky with white lights that flashed irregularly. The object first seemed stationary, then moved slowly, and finally sped off very quickly at low altitude. No sound was reported. The witness recorded two videos of what they saw. They were the only person to report the sighting.

GEIPAN compared the testimony, the videos and the radar track, which made it possible to identify the object with certainty: it was an aircraft. The strangeness the witness felt came from the plane's changing position and orientation. At first it was approaching head-on with its landing lights on, which hid the flashing lights and made it look motionless. It then made a 90° turn to the left, which exposed the flashing lights. Finally it flew in a straight line from east to west, which gave the impression of a sudden acceleration. The case was classified A: observation of an aircraft.
