Île-de-France, France
Sighting on June 22, 2025, exact location not given (département: Paris, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a balloon (class A).
What happened
One evening, a witness was looking at the sky from the terrace of their home when an intensely black object caught their attention. It lay roughly on a bearing of 265°, at an estimated altitude of about 3,000 feet, and was drifting slowly eastward. Its shape seemed unstable: at times solid, at other times made up of what looked like two separate spherical volumes.
The witness first thought of a tarpaulin blown by the wind. Then, given the changes in shape, which suggested either a continuous transformation or a split into two linked parts, they came to think of two large balloons tied together. They photographed and filmed the object. Their partner, who was present, saw the end of the observation.
GEIPAN rated the case as low in strangeness and good in consistency: two witnesses, but a single account, with photos and video. The investigation concluded that it was one or more balloons attached to each other and carried by the wind, since the appearance and description fit, and the apparent trajectory was fully consistent with the wind direction at the time. The exact origin of the balloon, whether released on purpose or lost, could not be determined. The case was classified A.
