Sighting in Plaisir, June 26, 2011
Yvelines, Île-de-France, France
Sighting on June 26, 2011 in Plaisir (Yvelines, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).
What happened
At around 2:30 in the morning, a witness was looking at the stars when a moving point of light caught their attention. It was quickly followed by several other points of light, between five and seven in all. They were orange, moved slowly and silently toward the west, and were lined up in a V shape.
The witness could see no stars inside the triangle formed by the lights. They concluded that the points marked the outline of a single object, though the investigation notes that they may have been dazzled by the lights.
Flying lanterns were considered because of the color and arrangement of the lights, but the witness rejected that explanation. It could not be confirmed from the wind direction, since the wind was very unstable that night. Another idea, aircraft flying in formation on their way to the Le Bourget air show, could not be checked because the investigation began too late. Given these doubtful or contradictory elements and the lack of information, the GEIPAN classified the case as C, insufficient data.
